Week 24! - The Grand Summer Ball!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week and I also hope you're having a wonderful day! This week was yet another wonderful week in the lovely Freiburg, Germany!

As hard as it is to believe, this was actually my last week going to school at St. Ursula! I for one cannot believe how fast the time has gone. It feels like just yesterday I arrived in Germany, and now I'm already done with school! Overall, the school week was quite normal, but there were some exciting moments.

On Monday I had a pretty short day. Normally I have 4 classes on Monday and I stay at school until around 3. But On this particular day I only had 3 classes so I got to leave school early. Other than that, nothing interesting happened. On Tuesday I actually gave a Physics presentation with Rahel and Larissa. Our topic was about the effects of radiation. I was pretty nervous for it, but everything ended up being fine. I had other classes on Tuesday too, but the only one worth mentioning is PE. It's weird because when I first arrived at St. Ursula, I really didn't like the gym class, but now we have a new teacher and I like it so much better. It reminds me a lot of gym class from elementary school. In elementary school gym class was basically just playing games and that's what we do. Our teacher comes up with all these different games like fun versions of dodgeball, and combining different sports to create new sports. For example, we played baseball but we used tennis balls and tennis rackets and it was a lot of fun. I wish the gym classes were like that in America too, but at my school at least, they're nothing like that.

On Wednesday our math teacher wanted to talk to each student individually out in the hallway so the rest of us watched a movie. We watched one of my favorite movies of all time, "Hidden Figures". If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. In Religion we also gave a presentation. This was also with Rahel and Larissa, and also Leonie. Our topic was about marriage in the catholic church and my specific section was what the Bible says the perfect relationship is. It was actually a very interesting topic. I messed up my part a little bit, but it wasn't really my fault and we got an A anyways so it all turned out okay.

Thursday was actually Noah's 11th birthday which was a lot of fun. When I came home from school I helped a little bit by getting the goodie bags ready and then when Noah came home from school we ate his favorite meal which is basically like stuffing but it's balled into little dollar sized burgers and they're fried. They are very good but a lot of work so Renate doesn't make them very often. He also had many friends over and we all opened presents and ate cake. Noah got a lot of playmobil so he was very happy. After we opened presents and ate cake, Noah kept hanging out with his friends and Rahel, Renate's parents, and Renate's friend and I went to a play. If you are wondering, yes, this is the  same play I've already seen two times before, but I wanted to see it for one final time. As always, it was very good and I was very impressed.

On Friday (my last day of school) I had a very easy day. Our first class was cancelled so I got to sleep in an extra 90 minutes. Then I only had two classes left, Chemistry and NWT. In Chemistry we watched a documentary on Marie Curie and we had our first fire drill of the year! I was wondering when we were going to do that. Turns out that in German schools, they only have fire drills about once or twice a year. After Chemistry, I had NWT. We really didn't do anything. For the first part of class we just hung out in the classroom, and for the second half we went out for ice cream and the teachers paid for us. How fun! Before I left the school forever, I wanted to go and thank the principal for letting me come to the school for 6 months, so I went to the principals office. I thought it would just be a quick thank you and goodbye, but he asked me a lot of questions. Then after I answered all the questions he said I passed his test haha. He had asked me about the months, dates, names, past tense, future tense, and present. It was his little version of a test that would quiz me on the German language haha. I thought that was really funny!

Then it was Saturday, the day of the big BALL! This was the grand final ball for completing the first 3 month section of dance classe! So I guess you could say I've been working at this for 3 months! After lunch Rahel and I went over to Leonie's house to get ready for the ball. We wanted to look great! I did Rahel's hair and my hair and we did our nails, got dressed, and some of us put on a little bit of makeup. After hanging out and getting ready for a few hours, we all headed back home and then headed to the ball. I ate a quick apple and peanut butter for dinner and then we left for Europa Park (where the Ball was located). Renate's Mom came to watch the boys and Rahel, Renate, Andy, and I were off! It wasn't a very long drive to Europa Park, only about 30-45 minutes, but as soon as we got there we realized that we had forgotten to print our tickets! But thankfully Renate was able to find them on her phone so it all worked out. Overall the ball was a lot of fun! There was a Salsa workshop, dance party rooms, performances from professionals, and competitions. It was all very interesting. There was also a part when I walked out and everyone clapped at me and then we danced. It was like a little graduation ceremony. I could keep explaining, but photos are worth a thousand words, and videos even more. So enjoy some pictures and videos I picked out!

This is a video of people just dancing for fun! (No competition)

This is a clip from the professionals preforming! Very pretty!
A photo from the competition!

On Sunday, I slept in a lot because we didn't get home until about 1 AM! I went to bed as soon as we got home, but I was nevertheless very tired. The rest of the day I just relaxed. I could have done some cool things, but honestly I just wanted a day where I could stay at home in my pjs all day and relax. Oh well! I was a little bit productive though because I did my packing for the school trip! Then in the evening I wrote my blog and went to bed! I hope you all have a wonderful week and I'll talk to you soon! As always feel free to email me with any comments or questions!

P.S. Be sure to read next weeks blog to hear about my class trip to Sylt, Germany and my last week in Germany!
