Hello! I hope you all had a good week! I had another wonderful week in Freiburg!
Monday was an average day. I went to school and had all my normal classes. In art we finally finished paper cakes. Yup that’s right. I’ve been working on a paper cake for 14 weeks. And the other girls in my class have been working on it for even longer. I didn’t think it could get worse than paper cakes, but somehow it did. Our next project is to create blueprints for a house boat. How do they come up with this stuff? The day went pretty slow, but as you all know, Monday is my favorite day so it wasn’t that bad. I didn’t pack a good lunch, so I bought a bit of yogurt and a pretzel. It gave me a stomach ache, but I just figured it was because I didn’t really get much nutrition. When I got home from school, Renate said that she was sick with something like a stomach bug. Timo was sick a few days before and so she probably just caught that. I shrugged it off and for the rest of the day I just relaxed and read my book.
On Tuesday, I woke up feeling terrible. Absolutely terrible. I slept through my alarm, so I figured it was a sign that I shouldn’t go to school that day. So I just went back to sleep. About an hour later, Rahel came home from school very early. Apparently she biked to school, and while she was biking she realized it probably wasn’t a good idea for her to go to school, so she just turned around and came back home. Meanwhile, I was just feeling sicker and sicker. Eventually I decided to get out of bed, but that didn’t do me any favors. I won’t go into the details, but basically let’s just say I was thankful that I stayed home from school. So I got back in bed and slept in bed for the whole day. As the hours passed, I gradually started feeling better and better. I still didn’t want to eat anything, but I was now able to sit up and feel okay. So I did my math homework and read my book. As the day turned into night, I still hadn’t eaten anything, but I decided to just go to bed early.
On Wednesday I woke up feeling suspiciously normal. It’s crazy how those 24-hour bugs can just come and go so fast. I decided to go to school anyway because I’d probably get bored if I stayed home and did nothing all day. And plus I like Wednesdays. So I rode my bike to school and got the day started. I still wasn’t hungry at all, but I felt normal so that was good. It was also a very chill day. My first class was math which I really like, and I really like what we’re doing right now with logarithms. I’ve done it before so I’m actually able to be helpful, and I can help the other girls when they have questions. Then after that there was a test in NWT. I didn’t take it, so I just got to relax for a bit. I had to be quiet, so I wrote a letter to a friend, and worked on my summer homework for next year. After the test, was Religion. I really like this class. And it was also very low stress that day which is nice. And just like that the day was over and I biked back home. When I got back it was lunch time. I decided to eat for the first time since I got sick… and everything was fine! I didn’t eat as much as I normally do, but nothing bad happened after and I felt normal. Then after lunch I was just about to plug my computer in and watch some videos, but Timo came up to me in the sweetest way possible and politely asked me if I wanted to play Kubb with him. Of course I said yes because how could I say no, and so Timo, Renate, and I went outside and played Kubb for a bit. Then after we got bored of Kubb, we walked over to the market square and got some fresh raspberries. While we were there I saw all the red currant. Currant is way more popular here than in the U.S.A. Infact, I’ve never actually tried it. So I was talking about that for a bit and then I was tired so I went upstairs. When I got up, I did my math homework. I was working on that for a while. Just before I finished, there was a knock on my door. It was Timo with a little plate of currant for me to try! That really warmed my heart. Kids are so sweet sometimes. I tried them, and I found out I’m a huge fan of currant! It was delicious! It was sour, but I really like sour foods. After I finished my treat, I finished my homework, and then ate a hard boiled egg for dinner.
Thursday was another normal day. The day actually went very fast. In politics we read a text about immigrants, emigrants, and refugees. It was talking mostly about pull and push factors. I remember vaguely learning about this before in another class I’ve taken at Longmomt which I think helped me understand a lot better. I was really excited that I was actually able to participate in reading the text and completing a worksheet! It’s the small things that make me happy. When I got home from school I was in a good mood so I listened to some music, and read my book as usual. I’m still very into reading books lately. It’s normally not something I find interesting, but I’ve had more free time here so it’s one of my biggest hobbies. I’ve found the cheapest way to read books is to download cheap ones on my phone. It’s not ideal because the screen is a little small. But it’s a lot cheaper than buying paper books in town.
Friday was once again very average. Not too much to say. German, chemistry, and NWT. In NWT we’re making solar cars. And our car is finally driving! It was really hard because I don’t know much about electricity or motors, but our team did it! We’re still not done, but at least now our car can drive! It was very exciting.
On Saturday I slept in and when I woke up I ate breakfast (my favorite, apple with peanut butter), and then plugged my computer in and watched some videos. Then Renate and I went into the city. We didn’t really have anything we had to buy. Just some fresh butter and cheese at the market. I just came to look. So we didn’t stay for long. But it’s always nice to look around. Then we rode our bikes back and Renate finished up lunch. We all ate lunch on the balcony because the weather was so nice. After lunch I had a little bit of time to relax before dance class! I left a little while later on my bike. Now that I’ve been going to dance for a couple of weeks, I’m really starting to know a lot. And the dances are getting a little bit more complicated which makes them more fun too. Overall it was a really fun dance class. Then right after dance class, Rahel and I met up with Renate and we rode our bikes about 20 minutes to another school. There was a free school play there called “The Wave” that we wanted to see. It’s about an American teacher who does this experiment in his class where the students are very disciplined, and have a strong sense of community. It’s based on a true story of a teacher who actually did this. It was basically about why the Nazis didn’t rebel, and why people didn’t rebel against the Nazis because the Nazis were only 10% of Germany’s population. It was very interesting. Apparently there’s a book about this experiment too. It was a very long play though, and it didn’t end until around 9:20 so we didn’t get home until 9:50. Rahel and I hadn’t eaten anything since lunch, so we ate quickly and then got ready for bed.
On Sunday I spent the day working on my blogs, and organizing. I did some homework, cleaned some drawers, etc. Nothing too interesting to report there.
I hope you all enjoyed this week’s blog! My posting schedule will now be back on schedule, once a week. Thank you for reading and as always if you have any comments or questions feel free to email me! Have a wonderful week!
