Week 15! - Long Weekend Fun!

Week 15!

Hello again everybody! This week was yet another fun week in Freiburg! The school week flew by with only three days. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. They were all normal. Nothing too interesting to report there. But on Monday I got some good news. I finished my paper cake and the art teacher said it was good and that because I don’t need grades I don’t have to come to class on Monday! I’m not sure if she’s allowed to do that, but hey, I’m not gonna argue because it means I get to sleep in an extra 90 minutes on Monday morning haha.

On Thursday, our first day off, it was very rainy. It was technically Father’s Day here, but we didn’t really do anything to celebrate. It rained all day. And it was the kind of rain that made the whole day really dark and cold. So I just stayed in my pjs till lunch and Noah and Timo did too. After we ate lunch we tried really hard to figure out something to do. Rahel was at the stable so it was just Renate, the boys, and I. Eventually, we decided on a museum, but Noah didn’t want to go so it was just Timo, Renate, and I. It was a kids museum but I didn’t mind because it meant that there wasn’t quite so much text. And the text that was there wasn’t super complicated. My confidence was boosted when I would go to a placard, read the whole thing, and understand it. I actually learned so much about bees. And I knew quite a bit about bees at Conserve already so I was excited to learn more. If you don’t know a lot about bees, I highly recommend watching some videos on them, reading articles, or listening to a podcast. I can guarantee you’ll learning something new and it’s a very interesting topic. Anyways, after the bee museum we went home and just relaxed for the rest of the day.

On Friday, I woke up and had a very relaxing morning. I ate my breakfast, did some watercolor painting, and packed for a sleepover. If you’re a frequent reader of my blogs, you might remember Cindy. She’s the one who took Rahel and I on a carriage ride and taught us all about the sport of carriage racing. Well on Friday, she had a sleepover birthday party! Rahel and I were running late so we ate lunch as quick as humanly possible and then left for Cindy’s party. Cindy lives about 30 minutes away so we carpooled with some of the other girls going to the party. When we all got there the first thing we did was open presents. I made Cindy a key chain with a little horseshoe charm on it for her horses, and also a watercolor painting. After presents we ate cake. Cindy had made a cheesecake, a vanilla cake with lemon icing, chocolate muffins, and blueberry muffins. Everything was so delicious and at the end we were all so full. Next we played a game. We sat outside on her deck and played “Wer Bin Ich” (who am I). If you don’t know this game, it’s basically where someone takes a piece of tape and writes a name on it and puts it on your forehead and then you have to figure out who you are. It’s a very word heavy game and you have to ask a lot of questions to figure out who you are but I was able to figure out who I was! (It’s small things like this that makes me very proud of my German). I was Percy Weasley from Harry Potter. After playing that game for a while we played another game. We had to bounce ping pong balls into a cup and when we did we got a candy bar. Apparently I have an unnecessary talent that allows me to bounce ping pong balls into cups really well because I was able to do it really well haha. After this game we played “Ich hab noch nie” (Never have I ever). In this game you say something you haven’t done, and if you’ve done it you have to “lose a life” and you only get ten lives. But we always forgot how many lives we had left so we just ended up played with infinity lives. haha. After this it was around dinner time so Cindy’s parents made us pizza. I assumed this was dinner but it was only the appetizer! For dinner we barbecued meat, but also vegetables for all the vegetarians. There was also salad and bread. After the pizza I wasn’t even hungry but after the barbecue I was so so full. Then they brought out a traditional german campfire food “stick bread” Basically you wrap dough around a stick and roast it over a fire. For some reason I found this so funny and couldn’t stop laughing as we all roasted bread around the campfire and sang german campfire songs. After our fire we went back inside and watched a movie. To our surprise when we went back to the room we were sleeping in, Cindy’s parents had set up a table full of snacks and chips and candy. MORE FOOD! I couldn’t believe my eyes! However, for me, the movie was pretty boring because at this point I was very tired and my brain was way too tired to watch a movie in German with no subtitles. So I just fell asleep. This was around 10:30. I’ve always been the kind of person who falls asleep early and wakes up early, so for me 10:30 was late. We were all staying in one room, but apparently I slept through a lot. When I woke up I could tell I’d slept through a lot because the room was way messier. Apparently they basically stayed up the whole night while I slept. But I’m a girl who needs at least 8 hours of sleep to not be a total grouch the next day, so I guess everyone was happy. But I’m just surprised I was able to sleep through that the whole night! When everyone woke up we ate breakfast and then hung out some more, and then we all got home around noon. Overall it was a really fun sleepover, and my first sleepover in about 4 months, so I was really glad I was  invited.

This was part of my present for Cindy. "Believe in yourself and then you will be unstoppable".

After I got back from the party Saturday afternoon, I ate lunch and then I had dance class. Dance class was pretty normal. Then after dance class I met Renate and Timo in the city. We had a few errands to run there. One of which was buying my very first german book! I finally felt I was ready to start reading books in German. I got 2 books specifically made for adults learning german. One is called “Ben liebt Anna” and it is a love story between a little boy and a little girl who just moved to Germany. The other book I bought I haven’t began reading yet, but I think it has something to do with World War 2. I’m really excited that I’m now ready and able to read German books and I’m excited to see how they help me grow in my journey to learn German. I read very very slowly, but I can understand! All in all it’s very exciting for me. After we went into the city and rode our bikes back, we made pizza! The pizza oven right next to their apartment was open so we made some delicious pizzas for dinner.

This was from earlier this week, but you can see the pizza oven in the back and also the beautiful trees in bloom right now.

On Sunday I had a very relaxing day. I did some homework, knitted, watched a movie, and Renate and I also went to take care of the sheeps and the goats at Timo’s preschool. It was a very calm day, but also very enjoyable. I also got the chance to FaceTime my parents which is always a good time.

That was my week! I hope you enjoyed and as always if you have any questions or comments feel free to email me! I love reading your emails so don’t be shy! I hope you all have a great week!
